Peter Harrison honored on BirdLife 100th Anniversary

A century ago, visionary conservationists came together to form an international movement to protect birds and the environment we all share. And this September, conservationists, thought leaders, and advocates committed to the environment, joined together once again at BirdLife100 World Congress to celebrate 100 years of conservation action. The historic event culminated with a special 100th Anniversary dinner on September 15 at the iconic Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Peter Harrison and Shirley Metz attended the event along with SEABIRDS co-author Dr. Martin Perrow and long time friend Chris Andrew.

On this 100th Anniversary of BirdLife, we are so proud to announce that Peter Harrison received one of BirdLife’s highest honors. BirdLife CEO Patricia Zurita presented Peter with an honorary Arctic Tern statue in recognition of his contributions to the conservation of marine birds.

For his amazing contribution to the knowledge and conservation of seabirds, tonight we celebrate Peter Harrison. We know well the critical importance of igniting in others a connection to and awareness of the nature around them. Birds are magnificent ambassadors in this way and Peter’s work as a seabird author, artist, and photographer stands out for his profound impact on people’s love for birds and nature. He has said that “My greatest reward is when someone tells me I have changed their life forever because they will never look at a bird in the same light again.” Although at BirdLife we spend every waking moment ensconced in birds, Peter’s work has the same powerful effect on us.”
